Applications are now being invited from piano students from the United Kingdom and Ireland for the 2011 Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship Awards. Launched in 1989, the Foundation recently celebrated twenty years of providing performance opportunities, support and financial assistance to talented music students throughout Europe. The programme now operates in thirty-one European countries and since its foundation has provided over 850 scholarships amounting to in excess of €1 million.

The scholarships have established an international reputation for showcasing the finest emerging talent and boast particularly strong alumni, many of whom are now enjoying successful careers. These include saxophonist Amy Dickson, euphonium player David Childs and pianists Sasha Grynuk and Eduard Kunz.

The awards are open to UK and Republic of Ireland students born after 1st January 1986 and currently studying on a full-time music course at a higher education institution.

There will be four prizes of £2000 awarded to the winning finalists (three in the UK and one in Ireland). Candidates are required to submit unedited recordings of two contrasting works, from which ten finalists will be selected. The UK finalists will then be invited to perform before the final judging panel at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance on February 8th 2011.

This judging panel includes Chairman and Head of Keyboard at Trinity Laban, Deniz Gelenbe; Christopher Elton, Head of Keyboard at the Royal Academy of Music; Aaron Shorr, Head of Keyboard at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama; Ronan O'Hora, Head of Keyboard at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama; and Graham Scott, Head of Keyboards at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Finalists from the Republic of Ireland will be invited to perform at the Royal Irish Academy of Music on 16th February before judges John O'Conor, Director of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and Eleanor Malone for Cork School of Music.
