A Yamaha Pianos Promotional Recital
 
 
Please join us for the third concert in our 2010 series of Lunchtime Music at our Wardour Street store on Thursday February 4th at 1pm where we feature Sylvia Jen, currently studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.
 
Presented in association with Yamaha pianos, these recitals provide a wonderful opportunity for highly gifted young artists to perform at an excellent venue. The series also gives our customers an insight into the extraordinary wealth of talent being nurtured in our conservatoires and the unique characteristics of Yamaha Concert series pianos.

The Artist:
 
Sylvia Jen - was born in Taipei, Taiwan where she began piano lessons at the age of 4. After immigrating to South Africa, she has been studying with Prof. Ella Fourie. During this time, Sylvia participated in and was a prize winner in many competitions. Since arriving in Scotland, she was awarded 1st prize at the Bamber/Galloway Piano Competition at the RSAMD.  
 
Sylvia has travelled extensively around the world for competitions, concerts and masterclasses including USA, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom. She has taken part in Masterclasses given by Konstantin Scherbakov, Homero Francesch, Eckhart Heiligers, Steven Osborne, and Gergely Bonyani.  Sylvia is also very privileged to have compositions written specially for her by two acclaimed South African Composers Stefans Grové and Hendrik Hofmeyr, and Polish Composer Marek Pasieczny.
 
Sylvia completed her BMus degree with Distinction at the University of Pretoria in 2007 under Prof. Ella Fourie and also PGDip with Distinction last year at the RSAMD under Fali Pavri. She has been the recipient of scholarships awarded by Pretorium Trust, SAMRO, UNISA, Oppenheimer Memorial Trust, Tillett Trust, the Colin Keer Trust and Yamaha UK. Sylvia is currently completing her Masters Degree in piano performance at the RSAMD under Fali Pavri.

This performance is free of charge and will take place in the Recital Room of Yamaha Artist Services Europe (London), situated within the historic Piano Hall at Chappell of Bond Street’s West End store.  The recital will commence at 1pm.
