Please join us for the first concert in our Spring 2011 series of Lunchtime Music at our Wardour Street store on Thursday January 13th at 1pm where we feature the pianist Gunel Mirzayeva, currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
 
Presented in association with Yamaha pianos, these recitals provide a wonderful opportunity for highly gifted young artists to perform at a superb venue as well as offering an insight into the extraordinary wealth of talent being nurtured in our conservatoires. And there are few better opportunities to hear Yamaha’s stunning handcrafted Premium Pianos played at concert level in the UK.

The Artist:
 
Gunel Mirzayeva - (Piano): Gunel Mirzayeva was born in Azerbaijan in 1987 and began studying the piano at the age of 7 at the Bul-Bul Music School with Tatyana Ryabuha and then at the Baku Music Academy with Yuri Sabayev. She is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Ronan O’Hora where she holds full scholarship (supported by Music Student’s Hostel trust). She has participated in master classes with artists such as Bryce Morrison, Paul Lewis, Viktor Rosenbaum, James Gibb, Imogen Cooper, Martin Roscoe, Caroline Palmer, Dominique Merlet, Guillermo Gonzalez, Richard Goode and Jerome Rose, Elena Nogaeva.
 
Gunel has been the recipient of numerous prizes such as 3rd prize in All City Competition for Young Pianists, Baku Azerbaijan (2003), 1st prize in the All Republic Competition of Azerbaijan (2006), 1st prize in the International Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Enschede, Holland (2008), 2nd prize in the Sheepdrove Piano competition (2009), the prize was personally presented by world famous conductor Sir Roger Norrington, Kathleen Higginson Piano Prize (2010).
 
She has performed Schumann and Liszt piano concertos with the Azerbaijani National State Symphony Orchestra in the National Philharmonic Hall in Baku and has given recitals and concerts at the Barbican Hall, House of Commons, King’s College and the Court Theatre in the UK, the “Brahms Woche” festival in Oldenburg, Germany, and in many other venues in Holland, Italy and Germany. Her upcoming engagements include recitals in the UK, France, Germany and Holland as well as a performance in the Small Hall at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, an appearance with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra in Wuppertal and Enschede, recitals in “El Bagno” castle in Germany and piano festival “les Cabardieses de Pennautier” in France.

This performance is free of charge and will take place in the Recital Room of Yamaha Artist Services Europe (London), situated within the historic Piano Hall at Chappell of Bond Street’s West End store. 
 
Final admittance to each recital is 12.55pm.
