Please join us for the sixth concert in our 2010 series of Lunchtime Music at our Wardour Street store on Thursday March 4th at 1pm where we feature Ivan Hovorun, currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.
 
Presented in association with Yamaha pianos, these recitals provide a wonderful opportunity for highly gifted young artists to perform at an excellent venue. The series also gives our customers an insight into the extraordinary wealth of talent being nurtured in our conservatoires and the unique characteristics of Yamaha Concert series pianos.

The Artist:
 
Ivan Hovorun - (Piano) was born in Ukraine, in 1983 and began his piano studies at the age of five with his mother. His early studies were at the Krushelnytska Music High School with Lubov Hovorun and in 2001 he entered the Lysenko Music Academy in Lvov. His first public performance was at nine years old. At the age of twelve he won third prize in the international Ragusa Ibla Grand Prix Competition for Young Pianists in Italy and subsequently First Prize in the Farbotony international competition in the Ukraine.
 
His first performance with orchestra was at the age of twelve when he played Beethoven's 1st Piano Concerto with Lvov Symphony Orchestra. Since then the orchestra has invited him to appear every year, performing Tchaikovsky’s first Piano Concerto in 2001, Rachmaninov’s 3rd Piano Concerto in 2002 and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in 2003. In 2004 he was awarded a scholarship to study with Norma Fisher at the Royal Northern College of Music.
 
Ivan is now in his first year of post graduate studies for his Masters Degree, at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Graham Scott. He has taken part in masterclasses with Stephen Hough, Howard Shelley, and Charles Rosen, lmogen Cooper, Nelson Goerner and Barry Douglas and has taken part in the College’s Brahms, Beethoven and Rachmaninov Festivals. He was recently chosen to perform Mozart's Piano Concerto in D major K537 with the RNCM Chamber Orchestra, Haydn’s Piano concerto in D Major with the Manchester Cameras a, and Liszt’s Hungarian Folk Melodies with the RNCM Wind Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall and Manchester BBC studio 7.
 
This year, Ivan was awarded the Myra Hess prize from the Musician’s Benevolent Fund and a scholarship from the Hattori Foundation for 2010.

This performance is free of charge and will take place in the Recital Room of Yamaha Artist Services Europe (London), situated within the historic Piano Hall at Chappell of Bond Street’s West End store.  The recital will commence at 1pm.
