Aizhana Nurkenova - was born in 1984 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.   Her mother discovered her composing at the piano when she was only eight years old, and as a result she began her piano studies in the Kulyash Baiseitova special school for gifted children. Subsequently, Aizhana won first prize in the Zhubanov National Festival and gave her first solo recital aged twelve. The same year she performed Mendelssohn’s Concerto in G minor with the National Chamber Orchestra and while still at school Chopin’s Second Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra.

After graduating with distinction Aizhana received a scholarship from the Trio di Trieste School of Music (Italy) and also from the United World College of the Adriatic, where she continued her studies with Maureen Jones and Dario De Rosa and the Trio di Parma. Simultaneously Aizhana studied in the Kazakh State Conservatory with its rector Zhaniya Aubakirova.

Aizhana is a prize winner of a number of international piano competitions and has performed widely in Italy both as a soloist and in chamber music. Under guidance of Trio di Trieste she recorded two CDs of chamber music, featuring the Dvorak's "Dumky" trio, the Shostakovich trio in C major and also the first performance of her own composition for violin and piano.

Since 2005, having won a Presidential stipend from the Kazakh government, Aizhana has been studying piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London and, in addition to her lessons with Hamish Milne, has participated in master-classes with Konstantin Lifshitz, Vladimir Krainev, Lilia Zilberstein and Boris Berman amongst others. Aizhana has been awarded a number of prizes including the Harriet Cohen and Harold Samuel Prize from the The Worshipful Company of Musicians, the Musicians Benevolent Fund award and Vivian Languish prize.

Her recent performances include the Ernest Chausson Piano, Violin and String quartet concerto in D major at the Duke's Hall, and Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini with Kazakh State Symphony orchestra in the Opera House of Astana (Kazakhstan).
