Chappell of Bond Street is delighted to continue hosting the second full season of Lunchtime Conservatoire Concerts featuring some of the very best pianists from our London conservatoires.
The first recital in the spring/summer mini-season is on Wednesday April 29th at 1pm where we feature Yoon-Seok Shin, currently studying at the Trinity College of Music. Yoon-Seok plays a programme of Classical and Romantic Piano Music.

The Artist:
Yoon-Seok Shin - Born in South Korea in 1987, Yoon-Seok’s musical talent was evident from an early age, beginning the study of piano at age of six. Having moved to London in 1999, he studied with Kyung-Won Lee and then spent four years studying with Andrew Zolinsky intensively at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. Yoon-Seok is currently in undergraduate taking BMus (Hons) Performance Course at Trinity College of Music, London continuing his studies under Philip Fowke and will commence his postgraduate studies taking MMus in Advanced Performance Course at the Royal College of Music, London under Andrew Ball from September 2009.
After completing his A-Level Studies at City of London Freemen’s School, he was a regular participant at the yearly music festival hosted by the Old Freemen Society where he was invited to perform on special occasions notably the 150th anniversary of Freemen’s Society. This included an invitation to perform in several music festivals and concerts and a formal dinner at Guildhall in the presence of the Lord Mayor of London as part of the school’s celebrations. Yoon-Seok took part in the Annual House Music Competition where he was selected as the 'Best Performer of the School'. As a music scholar, he performed ‘Beethoven Piano Concerto No.1 Op.15’ with the Ashtead Park Sinfonia Orchestra in the Ferndale Theatre under the baton of Philip Dodds, currently the conductor of the Ashtead Choral Society.
After winning 1st Prize in the Michael and Ernest Corby Transcription Competition 2007, Yoon-Seok was chosen to take part in the masterclass given by Leslie Howard and was invited to perform on ‘Liszt Society Day’ student concert in the Peacock Room at Trinity College of Music and in Young Artists’ Piano Recital at St. John’s Smith Square, London to celebrate the 80th birthday of the highly respected pianist/composer Ronald Stevenson. Yoon-Seok’s performance was highly praised as was his performances of Scarlatti sonatas at the Italian Cultural Institute in London, as 2nd Prize winner in the Il Circolo Scarlatti Competition 2008. In addition, he received the Runner-Up Prize in the TCM heats of the Jacques Samuel Intercollegiate Competition 2007. As a finalist in the Alfred Kitchen Chopin Competition 2007, he was selected to take part in the masterclass with Melvyn Tan in Blackheath Hall. Since then, Yoon-Seok has made regular appearances in masterclasses with acclaimed teachers including William Aide, Marialena Fernandes, Ronald Stevenson, Murray McLachlan, Douglas Finch, Deniz Gelenbe, Patsy Toh, Yonty Solomon, fortepianist Steven Devine and recently coached by Joseph Banowetz having awarded a scholarship to participate in Chetham’s Summer School of Music 2008.
Yoon-Seok is performing actively in UK and South Korea both as a soloist and accompanist. These are including recitals in Ferndale Theatre in CLFS, St.Andrews Church, St. Johns Crypt Bethnal Green, Holy Trinity Dartford, St. Lawrence Jewry, Lauderdale House, Charlton House, The Reform Club and St. Ann’s Korean Church as well as participating in the Scarlatti Marathon at the Royal Northern College of Music. Recently, he has taken part in the ‘French Chamber Music Festival 2009’ performing Ravel’s La Valse arranged for two pianos and in the event called ‘Schubertiade’ at Trinity College of Music organised by Brodowski Quartet. In addition, he played orchestral piano for Trinity College of Music Wren Ensemble performing Glinka’s ‘Serenade on Themes from Anna Bolena’ in the Royal Navy College Chapel and Charlton House conducted by Stephen Maw. Yoon has worked with Abram Wilson, the distinguished Jazz Trumpeter and Vocalist from New Orleans, USA giving a duo recital in the Pizza Express Jazz Club, London.

This performance is free of charge and will take place in the Recital Room of Yamaha Artist Services Europe (London), situated within the historic Piano Hall at Chappell of Bond Street’s West End store.  The recital will commence at 1pm.
