Lambeth Accord Charity a winner with Chappells and Yamaha

Search Lambeth Accord Charity a winner with Chappells and Yamaha:

Chappell of Bond Street & Yamaha were delighted to present Sheila Kelly with a brand-new Yamaha CLP320 Clavinova Digital Piano after Sheila was revealed as a winner in Yamaha’s recent 25 Years of Clavinova competition on Classic FM.

Sheila nominated the Lambeth Accord Charity in Brixton, London as the worthy recipient of her award.

The Yamaha Clavinova range of digital pianos celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008. As the perfect end to this celebration year, the Clavinova CLP range has just been voted ‘Best Digital Pianos’ in a prestigious music industry survey, run by MI Pro magazine.

Clavinova was first introduced in 1983 and since that time has grown into one of the worlds most popular keyboard instruments, with global sales approaching 3 million instruments. The instruments acceptance as a credible piano alternative is pivotal to its huge success. The quality of the piano sound and keyboard action together with an exciting range of performance features has made Clavinova the choice of not only the home pianist but also the education and professional players.

The Clavinova range is no stranger to winning awards, having achieved recognition across the globe from many different organisations. This achievement follows a very high profile community program where Yamaha, in conjunction with the popular radio station, Classic FM, gave away 25 Clavinovas to charities and worthy causes across the UK in the run up to Christmas.

There is a comprehensive range of instruments available designed to suit every individual and every situation. Chappell of Bond Street stock all Yamaha Clavinova at our Wardour Street store; visit Yamaha Clavinova for more details on the entire Clavinova range.

Introduction and Background to Lambeth Accord, 336 Brixton Road, London SW9 6BG

Lambeth ACCORD was set up in 1983 and is disability charity and a Social Firm, which is a type of social enterprise. It is based at and owns 336 Brixton Road, London SW9 7AA an iconic 1960s building in need of refurbishment which is a community resource centre, and acts as a ‘hub’ for a thriving and diverse disability community in Lambeth, South London and London. It supports and promotes the interests of disabled people primarily through the use of its building in Brixton.

It provides accessible office accommodation to fifteen disability charities and additional services through use of the conference and training centre, storage and facilities management and support with bookkeeping. The charity supports new emerging disability groups and local church groups who use the conference and training centre for their worship.
Its mission is simple:
“Lambeth ACCORD aims to improve the position of disabled people
in society and empower and support them and their organizations.”

However the building is in real need of upgrading to make it fit for purpose in the 21st century. During 2008, after extensive consultation, a major architectural competition took place which concluded in December 2008. In partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) the competition attracted the interest of over 100 practices from across the country and praise for the quality of the process and final submissions. This year will see the successful architect Bushow Henley begin to develop ideas to a pre submission stage and beyond.

This is a very exciting time for Lambeth Accord and for the many community groups and disabled people using the building and its facilities. We are keen to raise awareness of the development and invite sponsors, funders and local people and their representatives to take an active interest in the progress of the building project.

Through the refurbishment the Trustees want to raise the spirits and hearts of all those who use 336 Brixton Road, and for it to have a WOW factor that makes the Lambeth Accord ‘disability hub’ distinctive and all those who use the building and our services look forward to spending time at Lambeth ACCORD whether it is for work, social or leisure

The competition submissions are still on show at 336 Brixton Road and everyone is very welcome to visit the building.   Please feel to contact the building Manager Adrian Harris on 0207 274 2299 to arrange a visit and to learn more about this innovative development in the heart of Lambeth.
